You can go to this site and
submit your pages in one click to all of the magazines at once! They
even will notify you of new contest calls and what magazines are seeking
so your can submit your pages specifically for that call.
If they want your layout, they email you with more details.
Write your name, phone number, address, and
e-mail (if available) on each page submission. The page must be an
original idea - no copied ideas will be accepted. Write detailed
instructions on how you constructed each page. List the brand name, color,
etc. of all products used, including paper, scissors, templates, pens,
stamps, ink color, software, fonts, etc.
Sign up for their emailed newsletter to see what themes they are
currently seeking.
They compensate with cash - $50 per one page, $75 for a two page
spread.
If they want your layout, they normally call
you.
They sometimes say in their emailed newsletter
what themes they are currently seeking. They only like SIMPLE pages.
The first thing
you need to do is submit your pages!!
I do all of mine
by scanning them into my pc and then sending the scanned image to the
magazines. I send each of my layouts to all of the magazines. When I send
the email, I put all the magazine emails in the BCC field to hide the
addresses I am sending the email to.
You can also
make color copies and send them via snail mail to the magazines. I don't do
this though - I think it's expensive but it's reasonable if you don't have a
scanner. You don't have a better chance of getting published if you do it
this way. NEVER send your original pages to the magazine - only copies to be
considered for an upcoming issue.
Your favorite
pages may not be the ones that are published. Magazines mostly ask for
layouts based on what articles they are running. Sometimes they will tell
you what layouts they are looking for in advance.
Do not submit
your layout 10 times. They actually do keep your layouts on file and will
ask for them months later (or even a year later!).
Magazines have
what is called publishing rights so if one magazines asks for your layout,
another magazine can not and will not publish it. If you have your layout on
a popular website like scrapbooking.com
or scrapjazz.com then you should take
it down before you send your layout to the magazine.
If a magazine
asks for a layout, they will ask you to send the ACTUAL layout to them. They
will keep the layout until the issue after the one you get published in
comes out. So if you are published in Aug/Sept - they won't return the
layout normally until the Oct/Nov issue. Some magazines compensate you with
product and some with cash.
I have a
subscription to all the magazines on the market and enjoy them and the
articles they write!
If you submit
your layouts via email, send your layout, NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND
SUPPLY LIST! Magazines will not publish layouts without supply lists.
How do you keep
track of the supplies on your layouts? I write mine on the back of the
layout when I am done creating it!
If more then one
magazine asks for a layout (it has happened to me about three times now) you
have to tell the second magazine that asked that you are sorry and such and
such magazine already requested the layout. They are used to getting
responses like this so don't feel bad. Be happy that your layout is so
popular!
